STAHLWILLE AR visor for safe fastener sequencing
Many years ago, STAHLWILLE started work on using smart glasses to execute bolt-tightening processes in assembly work, while simultaneously monitoring the task. Now that the patent has been issued, work can begin in earnest on developing the application jointly between STAHLWILLE and oculavis.
In particular in the case of safety-critical fastener tightening, e.g. in the automotive and aerospace industries, it is essential that assembly workers adhere strictly to the assembly sequence and tighten the fasteners to exactly the prescribed parameters. The correct sequence is now transmitted in the new application to an AR visor so the worker sees the sequence projected onto the fastener to be tightened directly in front of his or her eyes. At the same time, the radio-linked torque wrench is set automatically for the next fastener with the parameters stored in the production control system. The joint as tightened is then evaluated and logged in the production control system before the visor receives the signal for the next fastener position.
In terms of preparation, it is necessary to model the tightening sequences, consisting of the fastener positions in a three-dimensional workspace and the tightening parameters. Once this has been completed, the worker is then able to use the visor to select the correct tightening sequences and conduct the tightening operations.
In the next stage of the development, STAHLWILLE intends to make it possible to store the tightening sequences themselves by interacting with the visor. In that way, one worker could use a physical workpiece to locate and define the fastener positions in such a way that the next worker can simply call them up.
At the EMO trade fair in Hanover and at the Aachen Assembly Workshop, oculavis and STAHLWILLE demonstrated the application and received considerable inquisitive looks and aroused great interest among the conference participants. If you would like to find out more or make use of the application in your company, please contact STAHLWILLE or oculavis.
